SOLO VOICE

MARCH 20 - MARCH 31 2013


ENTRY CONDITIONS

  1. The competition is open to singers of any nationality who are under age of 30 for female i.e. under 32 in male category on March 20 2013.
  2. Candidates should provide the following items:
    1. a duly completed application form or on-line registration
    2. a brief Curriculum Vitae
    3. copies of documents testifying candidates musical education and copies of prizes/diplomas
    4. references from their present or previous professors (original)
    5. one recent glossy photograph - postcard size (9x13) which will be reproduced in the Competition booklet. Alternatively candidates may send a photo by e-mail (300 or more dpi).

    All documents should be sent till December 31, 2012 to the following address:

  3. All applicants will be informed of their acceptance or rejection not later then February, 2013. Accepted candidates who are unable to take part in the Competition must notify the organizer immediately.
  4. Candidates should pay an entrance fee of €100 till December 31, 2012 at the latest in to the following bank account

    Payment must be made exclusively in Euros. Any wiring fees must be paid by the applicant.
    This application fee is not refundable.
  5. Each participant will be asked to show his/her identity papers before the Competition's opening.

COMPETITION CONDITIONS

  1. The Competition will be held in Belgrade from March 20 to March 31 2013.
    All tests will be public.
  2. All pieces included in the programme must be prepared in their entirety.
  3. The competitors should contact the Secretariat of the Competition on March 20 2013 by 5 p.m. at the latest.
  4. Competitors shall perform in order of appearance decided by lot. The draw will take place before the Competition's opening in the presence of the competitors and jury. The playing order of competitors will be adhered to in the first two stages. The order in the final stage might be changed due to the programme planning.
  5. Competitors who are not ready to perform when called upon to do so may be disqualified.
  6. Rights on any Competition performances, recordings or filming belong to International Jeunesses Musicales Competition and no fee is payable to any competitor on account of those performances, recordings or broadcastings of them.
  7. All participants must be available to representatives of media throughout the Competition.
  8. The Competition Board is entitled to cancel the Competition if there are less than 6 applications.
  9. All first prize-winners must come to receive their prizes in person, except in the event of illness, upon presentation of a medical certificate. Otherwise the money will be returned to the Competition Fund. All first prize winners are obliged to accept the concert engagements which form an integral part of the prize.
  10. At the end of each stage all the participants are required to be present when the results are announced.
  11. The Competition will cover the costs of full board and lodging for all candidates from second stage of the Competition until the last day of their active participation in the Competition.
  12. The Competition will, at its own expense, provide piano accompanists for singers. Candidates may alternatively, be accompanied by a pianists of their own choice but have to cover their expenses.

EXCERPTS FROM THE ADJUDICATING RULES

  • The jury decides on the admission of competitors to the second and the third (final) stages as well as on the award of the prizes.
  • Decisions of the jury are final and are not subject to questions, revisions or appeal.
  • Jury members will not make contact with competitors while such competitor is continuing to compete.
  • No more than 16 female and 16 male singers with the highest scores obtained in the first stage will be admitted to the second stage.
  • No more than 6 female and 6 male singers with the highest scores obtained in the second stage will be admitted to the third (final) stage.
  • The names of competitors admitted to the second and the third stages will be announced during the morning following the end of the test. The names will be given in order of appearances.   • The 3 female and 3 male competitors with the highest scores obtained in the final stage will receive the first, second and the third prize, according to their respective number of points and diplomas accrediting prize-winner status.
  • Competitors who reach the final round will receive a diploma accrediting their participation in the final round.
  • All prizes are indivisible.
  • The jury may withhold one or more of the prizes, if it so decides.

REPERTORY SOLO VOICE
The program selectors are Katarina Jovanovic (Serbia), Professor at the Music Faculty in Belgrade and Igor Durlovski (Macedonia) soloist of the state Opera in Kassel, Germany

First stage- the stage cannot be shorter than 15 minutes, or longer than 20 minutes

  1. An aria or a song of spiritual or secular character from the period 1500 to 1770 year
  2. The song by F. Schubert (in the original tonality)
  3. A song by free choice of the candidate (from any period)
  4. An aria by choice of the candidate

Second stage - the stage cannot be shorter than 20 minutes, or longer than 25 minutes

  1. Obligatory compositions
    SOPRANO – Miloje Milojevic – The Eagle's Song
    MECOSOPRANO – Mirjana Zivkovic – The Touch
    TENOR – Stevan Hristic - Elegy
    BARITONE/BASS – Nikola Hercigonja – Jututun's National Anthem
  2. An aria from the oratorio or cantata or a concert aria (any period)
  3. Mozart – opera's or concert aria or a song
  4. A song from the candidate's country
  5. A song of the 20th or 21st century (composed in the period from 1900 until the present days)

Finals - Six opera arias from the list. Two opera arias are performed in the final: one by the own choice and other by the selection of the jury

All compositions during the three stages of the competition are performed in the original tonality and are sung in the original language that they are written. Transcriptions, adaptation and other modifications are not allowed. The candidates are obliged to send photocopies of the following compositions to the Secretariat of the Competition:
I stage – under c) – photocopy of the whole composition
II stage – under b) – photocopy of the first page, while under d) and e) photocopy of the whole composition should be sent.

N.B.
No piece can be repeated during the Competition. The score of the compulsory piece can be obtained from the Secretariat of the Competition. All pieces must be performed in the original language and from memory. The arias in Finals will be accompanied by an orchestra and should be performed in the orginal key, i.e. cannot be transposed. All candidates should give precise details - for arias (the name of the role, the act and the beginning words) and for songs (the original title and the title of the cycle, if any).
